Directed by the almighty Yuen Woo-Ping, True Legend aims to wow the crowd with its sickeningly fast choreography. There's a bit of wire-work, but it looks like it's neither completely wire-reliant, nor 3D needy. It's got a powerhouse cast too, including . It's got Vincent Zhao, the guy best remembered for his short term stint as Wong Fei Hung in Tsui Hark's Once Upon A Time In China series. So yea, you know he's fast. It's also got Jay Chou, Michelle Yeoh, the immortal Gordon Liu, and the late great David Caradine. Definitely looks like it's worth the watch.

This flat-out looks awesome. A lot of people are calling it a Japanese 300 though, but I say give it a chance first. Heck, every flick deserves one. I like how the story's pretty straightforward. I personally love the "power-mad pipsqueak must die" plot. There's nobody else better to bring down than someone who thinks they're better than everybody. Oh and on another note, it promises gore. So yea, I'm in.

I was just browsing online bike classifieds, and I spotted a few gals that I have the hots for goin' cheap. Sure wish I had the moolah right now. My body needs the therapy. I miss the thrill of the open road. I yearn for the curves. I ache for the ability to smoke anything on 4 wheels. When I ride is when I'm truly at peace.

Hell, I'll even settle for a 2-stroke dirtbike or a rickety old sportbike.

When I was a kid, and I didn’t get my way, my mom would always fix me a scalding hot bowl of Shepherd’s Pie. Other countries call it Farmer’s Pie. It’s basically a ridiculously thick layer of ground beef under a ridiculously thick layer of mashed potatoes.

Now while my wife and I were just dating, she was able to sample some of mom’s Shepherd’s Pie on one of those many nights that mom would insist I bring her over for dinner. Instantly, she was hooked.

Fast forward to married life. I figured that my kids should also have a taste of the same comfort food I was treated to. So I had mom email us her recipe. My wife was more stoked than I was. I guess it’s a girl thing. New recipe = New ammo for friends and family for when they come over.

So when we got the recipe, my wife rushed me out of bed, out of the shower, and into my clothes, and out the door to accompany her to the grocery store. She was THAT psyched. Also, she was THAT antsy cause it was Sunday. So basically, EVERYBODY’S out shopping. After a long queue at the cash register, we got our ingredients, and went home.

We got started, followed everything to the letter, only changing things here and there in terms of volume. Oh, and my wife said “You can’t enjoy mashed-po without gravy.” So she whipped up a generous batch as well. Boy did that do the trick!

Our first try at it was a success! Remember that scene in Ratatouille when the douchey food critic guy tried the rat’s ratatouille, and was somehow magically transported back to when he was a kid? I swear that stuff really happens! Immediately, I recall my mom saying “Sorry about your dad breaking his promise about your Super-NES. Here eat this.” I nearly cried too! Apparently my mother in-law loved it, and so did my wife’s older and younger brother.

Wifey’s older brother loved it so much, that a week later, he begged me and my wife to accompany him to his house and teach him how to make it for his girl. He practically kidnapped us! Honestly, his batch turned out to be better than ours! I’m really happy for him too. He now calls it his “Secret Pie”, and refuses to share the details with his girl. I guess it’s some sorta “breakup failsafe” or something. Either way, I’m stoked.

Next day even stranger news. My mother in law brought some of my wife’s Chicken and Potatoes in Creamy Cheese Sauce to work with her, and basically her officemates FOUGHT her for it. She comes home telling my wife that her creation is a hit in the office. I told my mom about it and she said “Remember that time when you told me to go into business selling Shepherd’s Pies, and I didn’t act on it cause I thought it was too common? Well now I’m hurling that advice right back at you, son. Start up a resto or something. Sell while there’s a market for it. If there ain’t none, make one.”

So wait.

Damn.

Y'know what "Maxine"? I can call you "Maxine" right? I've been longing for you ever since I sold my old girl.

But even to this day people talk about how much of a bad girl you are. Telling me that you're no good for me.

Your frame flexes.

Your stock wheelbase is awkward.

You use Bias-Ply tires. Technology from the 50's.

Your airscoops don't even really work.

Your fuel consumption is crap.

You're a wannabe cruiser.

You're a wannabe sportbike.

Whatever. They're just jealous that they can't outrun you.

They have to lean into turns to try and match your speed.

You simply open up the throttle, blast your way to the turn, slow down into the curve, and blast away again when you get out of it.

They can't accept that with proper modification, you'd be the safest, fastest bike out there DESPITE REMAINING UNCHANGED DESIGN-WISE FROM 1985 to 2008.

Oh yea! Been playing the hell out of it ever since.

The last time I played Marvel Vs Cacpcom 2 was when I still had a Dreamcast, so yea It's been a while.

Since it's a fighting game from an old franchise, I've decided to go with the ones I'm used to using. I'm going with Wolverine, Magneto, and Spiderman. They work great, if not better.

Wolvie's been sped up a bit, making it even more possible to tie a HIGH Berserker Barrage from a running/standing 3-hit combo.

Ol' Magneto's still the same move-wise. His ever annoying Hyper Gravitation, and Electromagnetic Disruptor are still around. So far I can only see a couple cons with Maggie. His flight move is shorter now, his HIGH Hyper Gravitation fizzles out just short of full screen range. Oh, and they changed his voice from "old perv", to "smarmy elitist", which I guess fits the bill in a way.

Spiderman's still quick. Which is why I have him on my team. Nothing wrong with him as far as I can see.

The new characters are tempting as well. Might wanna try my hand at Dante, Deadpool, and Chris Redfield.

My wife's having a ton of fun with Chun Li, X-23, and Felicia. So yea, you can tell she's a combo fiend.

Sure I'd save a few people from time to time, but for the most part, I'd look out for me and mine.

Like If I had super strength, I'd go into boxing or something, make a killing, then retire right away before getting famous, so that nobody would care. No fan base, no I wouldn't spam that shit and get famous. I'd only make enough to give my family a really comfy life. As in REALLY comfy.

Then that would mean I'd get to make a lot of people around me very happy, which matters a lot to me.

Then, I'd get a van, a car, and a slew of bikes.

Also, I'd start a business, and just blend.

1. Jakie left me for another guy. That, and she wanted "space". Who cares? Same bullshit.

2. Been hanging out with my old college buddy who's now my officemate! Her name's Aya. She's cute. Veerrryy cute.

3. A few weeks later, Jakie asked if we could get back together.

4. I figured I've had it with her shit, so I turned her down.

5. Now I'm dating said college-buddy-turned-officemate.

6. I asked her to go steady with me.

7. She said yes.

8. We bought an XBOX 360.

I moved out of Merville paranaque last year. It was bittersweet. I do miss my buds. So when they demanded that I show up to the Christmas party, I was floored with excitement! I just had to go! And I did! And I was glad.

Another Saturday with the NOS boyz...

Another Saturday afternoon at Gil's. Being single has its perks.

Here's Jon, and Edward working on the Dragstar.

In walked this rare beauty. A Yamaha TDM850. That's one sexy Baja bike.

To pass the time away, I decided to play with Gil's grandson, Miguel. This guy chuckles when he hears an engine revving. I love him already.

No, that's not Pepe Smith. He's Brent. Some goofy American who's imagining strange noises coming from his engine. Man, I dunno if it's drugs you gotta stop taking, or drugs you gotta start taking, but man, do something!

After giving the Dragstar the spa treatment, we decided to stretch our legs. Gil took me blasting through Macapagal, where we stopped for a quick meal at Jollibee.

Later on that evening, we met up with Ed, Cynthia, Jon, Jauhn, Edwin, and Noel at a little cafe inside Multinational village. Loved the BBQ. After eating our fill we discussed some activities for the group like a charity ride, and our much-awaited iron butt ride to Pampanga. Can't wait for that one.

The morning after bombing the town with the NOS Boys, I went on a ride to Tagaytay with my officemates. Now THAT'S a teambuilding event! Too bad we're from different teams.

I Met up with Jovs, Joveth, and EJ at Jollibee Madrigal at 4am. Then rode off to meet Karl at SM Molino at 5am. A bit of a ways further we met up with Emgrey and Grace.

Somwhere in Cavite, Emgrey got a flat, so we had to find a vulcanizer guy who's up at 6am. Well we found the guy and he was happy to oblige. WHile waiting we took the opportunity to take a few pics.

NOS Boys Saturday Night Bombing Run

Ok, little story first. On the way home Friday night, my headlamp went out. I was bummed. Went to Gil's The following day to have it looked at. Turns out the Bulb's busted. Gotta fork over some cash for a new one. Which leads us to a new problem. The headlamp assembly's pretty tight, so we(Gil, Jon, Pablo, Edward) couldn't figure out how to openi it without smashing it. However, I NEEDED a headlamp bad, so Gil ripped out a foglamp from a nearby truck, and slapped it onto my bike.

As you can see, the "wiring" is really truly "intricate".

Anyway, fast forward to 7pm. Gil and I were waiting for Jon, a newbie to arrive. Edwin's already with us and was simply warming his engine up. Jon shows up at 7pm on the dot, apologizing, and blaming Saturday night traffic. So we head out to Jolilbee, to meet up with Ed, Cicero, and Jauhn who's coming from work.

Turns out, Ed's at a carshow in SM MOA, and Cicero can't make it. So the minute Jauhn came over, from work, we sped off to Macapagal, taking the quickest "cop-free" route to meet up with Ed.

Gil decided to do a quick "round-the-mall" run. Great idea. After scaring random children, and setting off car alarms with the roar of our engines, we decided to hang out at Cafe de Lipa in Petron. Turns out Gil frequents the joint to work his magic on a young waitress who works there. The fun never stops for Gil. Hehehehe.

My father passed away on October 24, at 11:45pm. He died in his sleep. It was caused by a heart attack according to the attending physician.

Odd Toy I found in Rustan's

Saw this strange toy in Rustan's today. Had to take a pic.
It appears to be a clean-shaven Paul sr. on a trike. Couldn't seem to fix the front fender though. Then the toy demo guy saw me ogling at the thing, and decided to amaze me by operating it. And like clockwork, as if he'd been doing this since birth, he slapped on some batteries, and whipped out a controller! The thing's an RC toy! Pretty cool! And then some weird 80's-ish hair metal song was blaring through a speaker somewhere in the bottom. That was the dealbreaker. I promptly ran away screaming in the opposite direction.

Wishlist: Kawasaki ZZR 1100-D

I dunno, but recently, I've been missing sport-touring. So I decided to look around and google one of my 1st loves...

A Kawasaki ZZR1100D! I've owned a 400cc version, but THIS is one of the bikes I wanted to ride since day 1!

This is(I believe) the 1st Hypersports bike. This bike was the king of the street back in its heyday. Riding it was often described as "Riding the blastwave of an endless explosion". How cool is that?

Thanks to the Suzuki Hayabusa this bike got cheaper, and people who used to salivate over this bike back in the 80's and 90's can now actually afford it!

Another thing that made me fall hard on my knees in love with this thing is that it looks so boss with hard panniers!

*SIGH* Awesome...

My Yamaha's rectifier blew out on me. Feel so bad now.

I was riding aroud in the neightborhood when I noticed that my voltage reading was dropping fast, and I could smell fresh asphalt. I went back to the house, and checked the bike, and there it was. My rectifier with a massive crack on its backside.

Now I gotta save for another purchase...

With Halloween just around the corner, a whole slew of kiddie costume kits have already emerged at our local Dollar store.

But this caught my eye. Looks like a Spartan's helmet! Kids are gonna wear this? Will their folks even let them? I gotta say you'd have to be one buff 6 year-old to look the part. I can already see it. Lil' kids kicking other kids into open manholes, or ditches while screaming "THIS IS SPAAARRRTAAAHHH!!!"

It didn't have a box, or instructions. Hell, it was missing a cape, shield, and a spear, too.

Hot Weather Survival Tactics for Motorcyclists

Whether you describe “Hot Weather” as 80 degrees or 110 degrees, if you are riding for several hours in heated temperatures, the main thing to prevent is also the most obvious: DEHYDRATION.

Dehydration is excessive loss of water from the body.

Motorcyclists should not think too lightly of this malady.

Dehydration can lead to a range of “bad” to “very bad” things that are listed below. As a rider, you may be surprised at how fast dehydration can effect you on the road, especially since there are a surprising amount of motorcyclists (and non motorcyclists) who live their non-riding lives in a near-hydrated condition anyway. (Although I’m sure that does NOT include YOU!!)
What’s the easiest way to tell if you are dehydrated?
If you’re thirsty?
Well…OK…that’s true: you should definitely drink water when you are thirsty. But there are riders who are so used to ignoring their body’s thirst signals that there’s another way: check the color of your urine. A DARK yellow color indicates you are dehydrated. Which means you are well past the point of not drinking enough water.

That may not sound too revelatory, but here are some of the hazards and symptoms that can impact any dehydrated rider anywhere in the world:
Heat Cramps: If you feel cramps in your legs or abdomen, you need water. In fact, you’ve passed the point you need water. And things are going to get worse until you get some of that H2O.
Heat Exhaustion: If you kept on riding in spite of the cramps, or even if you didn’t experience cramps, but are riding beyond your body’s normal need for water, you are now motoring into the realm of becoming a prime candidate for heat exhaustion. Some of the symptoms that you may expect include lots of sweating, headaches, nausea, dizziness, weakness, tiredness and even fainting spells. Obviously these are the kind of symptoms that can badly effect your motorcycle control and reaction time to routine threats to motorcycle survival. So, “Heat Exhaustion” means “bad” news for bikers.

Heatstroke (also known as sunstroke): To put things in proper perspective, heatstroke is a medical emergency and the person should be taken to a hospital. This is well beyond the stage of feeling uncomfortable simply because it’s hot out. Signs to watch for include rapid heartbeat; rapid breathing; confusion or incoherence; blanking out; hot, red, dry skin; elevated body temperature; and even hostility (more so than normal for any of your easily aggravated companions). Note that the rider has now passed the sweating stage. The dehydration is so advanced that there is not enough water in the body to perspire (which is the normal way the body cools itself).

A rider experiencing heatstroke might even appear to be intoxicated.

As heatstroke continues to advance, the face may change colors, moving from red to a pale or bluish tint. Unfortunately, if heatstroke is this far advanced, things can still get worse, including the failing of body organs accompanied by unconsciousness and coma, and in rare circumstances, death. In short, you don’t want to come near the possibility of experiencing heatstroke.
It’s worth re-stating that you don’t want to get yourself anywhere near the point of heatstroke.
However, if a rider you know does get heatstroke, you need to help them fast, no matter what objections they may offer: Their body temperature must be lowered immediately. Begin by getting the rider out of the sun, and ideally into some air-conditioned area. Their clothing should loosened and/or removed to allow more ventilation. Even better would be to get the rider into some cool water, such as a bath, or even a lake or river if such is possible.

OK, now let’s look at what you can do to enhance your safe travels through hot weather. Let’s start out with the most obvious:

Drink lots of “water.” WATER is emphasized since refreshments like soda, coffee (or any caffeine drink) or alcoholic drinks can actually contribute to dehydration, instead of helping to alleviate it.
Insulate your skin from the heat. It may seem counter-intuitive to wear protective clothing on a hot day, but you NEED to cover your exposed skin. Think of the desert nomads that spend their whole lives traveling in the desert with their camels: They ALL wear garments that cover their entire body and head. In real simple terms, exposed skin on a hot day is not only subject to sunburn, but bare skin soaks up MORE heat from the sun. If the outside temperature is higher than your normal body temperature (36.8°C or 98.2°F), and if your bare skin is exposed to the heat, your body temperature has no where to go but up. On the other hand, if your skin is covered, you are insulating yourself from the heat. It may “feel” good (particularly on shorter rides) to take your jacket off on hot days, but it is pushing your body into the range of dehydration symptoms even faster. (Of course, riding without proper motorcycle gear on a hot day could also result in considerably more severe circumstances should you take a tumble on searing asphalt with bare skin or without a helmet).

If you are riding in areas of low humidity, for example, in the deserts of the American Southwest (or any place that is hot and “dry”), you can cool yourself by dowsing your cotton shirt with water and zipping up your jacket on top of it. Your closed jacket will keep your shirt wet, longer. Of course, if you happen to be wearing a mesh jacket, you can feel quite comfortable for only a little while, as the water evaporates from your shirt under the mesh quite rapidly. In other words, it won’t take long before your shirt is thoroughly dried out and you need to do it again.
Now, if you try this in a part of the world that is hot “and” humid, then you will simply be hot and wet with this tactic.

If you are motorcycle touring and you know the temperature is going to be uncomfortably warm for you in the direction you are heading, then don’t ride in the hottest part of the day. Hit the road before the sun rises, get several hours of riding under your belt, and then get to a hotel or make camp before the heat becomes unfriendly. Additionally, if you are one of those folks who is not an early riser, then hit the road in the late afternoon, and ride through sunset and into the evening. (Of course there is a risk in finding “No Vacancy” signs at motels, hotels and campgrounds if you want to end off your riding too late in the evening.)

Perhaps the simplest tactic is to take regular breaks and get into some shade (while drinking plenty of water!)

Ran into Jeff, an old college buddy of mine yesterday. I've never had the chance to hang out with him since I've moved here. He was cleaning his Ducati. Dunno what type it was. Sounded Italian. So after exchanging greetings and small talk, we started ogling at each other's bikes. Each of us admiring every detail and commending each other. He looked sad though. Turns out he was selling it that day. I then suggested a quick ride with him around the village. He agreed... And left me in the dirt. It was so funny. It's like I was going backwards. That Duc's as quick as it's noisy. To the uninitiated, the dry clutch gives the impression that it's about to explode, or that there's a foreign object bouncing around in the engine. While we were idling at the stoplight going to Petron, we could barely hear each other. But we were making a pretty catchy beat. His "clickity-clackity", alongside my "bagada-bagada-bag-bag". It was hilarious.

Now THAT'S a racebike.

For the life of me, I cannot recall why I loved riding in this position.

Internet was shot again over the weekend. Had to do this at work. Anyway, I went on an early morning ride with the NOS boys and the SPEARS MC over at Macapagal last Sunday. As usual it was fun.

After stopping over at Shell macapagal to wait for the SPEARS club, we finally made it to the Boulevard Boyz Anniversary party. The Takaakis parking lot alone was a sight to behold. It's no Sturgis, but it sure came close! Bikes of all kinds were all gathered in one place. Choppers, Sportbikes, Sport-tourers, Trikes, Standards, you name it! Everytime a bike rolled by, a hush fell over the crowd, anxious to see what kind of awesomeness they will be exposed to. Of course, looking for a parking space was a challenge on its own. Hehehe!

As you can see, the place was totally packed.

Ever since I was a kid, I've been fascinated with the Kamen Rider(Masked Rider) shows. The show's been around since the late 70's, and still has a huge cult following to this very day.

I wasn't lucky enough to catch the original Kamen Rider(see above pic), since I was born during the 80's. I was instead treated to one of the greatest Kamen Rider shows of the 80's: Kamen Rider Black!

How cool is that? A guy who transforms into the ultimate butt whomping, biker! Now THAT's a hero!

Fastforward to 2008. The latest Kamen Rider no longer uses a sportbike, or a dirtbike. He's got a freakin' chopper!

Enter, Kamen Rider Kiva, and his "Machine Kivaa"!

Just got a call from my friend/mechanic, John. He says that the battery I bought a couple of months ago was weak, and was barely able to supply power to the bike. That's odd. That battery's almost brand-spankin' new! It's been on the bike for a good 4-5 months now! He asked me if it's one of those 2 thousand peso ones, and I DO remember shelling out that amount to buy it. He then replies with a grim "Oh.", which is never a good thing. He then said that he'll run a few more tests after pushing the bike back to his shop. He also told me that it's probably the wiring or something. Looking back though, it ran relatively fine before I even brought the bike to Gil's joint using THAT same battery. Gosh, I hope everything turns out ok tomorrow. Man, this sucks...

The commute to work was especially painful today. Took my mom's Pajero. I completely fogot how huge this freakin' car is. I had a hard time looking for a parking space.

On top of that, mom's whining about me sucking up her gas everytime I use her car. How I wish I could simply perform 2 cartwheels, and I'd be at work already.

This sucks major ass. Man, I wish my bike was done already.

But with the rising gas prices, I'm kinda leaning towards getting a lower displacement 2-wheeler. Preferrably a 250cc CVT type. Like...

A Honda Helix! Man look at that! looks like a freakin' boat! *hums "Thundersub" theme* I heard these were around during the 80's, so a 2nd hand unit shouldn't cost a lot.

Plus, it's got room for me, my girl and her baggage!
